The purpose of the Karalius Foundation is to develop and deliver quality education to disengaged teenagers with the view to re engaging them into society. The Foundation will offer rich curriculum that supports entry into further education and employment.

Locally: The Karalius Foundation will be a independent special school that will empower  young people through a rich curriculum.

Regionally: The Karalius Foundation will work with local authorities and PRUs regionally to improve the quality of provision offered and provide curriculum support.

Nationally: The Karalius Foundation will conduct national benchmarking and workforce support to improve the quality of education for disengaged young people and in turn will influence policy on a national scale.

Job Description

The Karalius Foundation is an SEMH independent school that provides education for KS4 pupils. Our curriculum is unique offering qualifications that are designed specifically for our school and cohort of learners. We will offer intense mentoring and support for pupils, placing them in a class with a maximum of 7pupils.

We have high expectations of our pupils; build a secure and happy atmosphere in which pupils can learn effectively.

As the Head of Foundation you will be an outstanding practitioner with extensive experience of working with pupils with SEMH and carry out the professional duties set out in the most recent Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document and fulfil the Teachers’ Professional Standards within the context of the job description set out below.

Purpose:

To secure outstanding outcomes for all pupils in the school by providing the day to day leadership of a single school. The Head of Foundation will promote and support the vision and direction of the foundation.

The duties outlined within this job description are in addition to those covered by the latest School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document. It may be modified by the Executive Head Teacher in consultation with the post holder to reflect or anticipate changes in the job.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

LEADERSHIP

  • Accountable for ensuring the vision of the foundation is implemented and embedded effectively within the school.
  • Accountable for the effective day to day leadership, management and internal organisation of the school in the absence of the Executive Head Teacher.
  • Effectively complete the requirements for performance management of  assigned staff.
  • Coach, mentor and motivate staff to build a culture of high commitment, standards and drive for success.
  • Support the Executive Head Teacher and governors in creating and maintaining good working relationships amongst all members of the school community.
  • Work with the Executive Head Teacher in the effective and efficient use of existing resources, and the securing of additional resources, for the foundation.
  • Ensuring all school policies and procedures (including safeguarding policies and procedures) are rigorously followed by staff and students.
  • Support the Executive Head Teacher  in ensuring that all school policies are regularly reviewed and updated.
  • Undertake any relevant professional duties delegated by the Executive Head Teacher.

LEADING TEACHING AND LEARNING

  • Accountable for leading on teaching and learning across the school, promoting high quality learning opportunities and the highest possible outcomes for pupils.
  • Ensure that statutory requirements for the National Curriculum are met and that all pupils are enabled to access a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum. 
  • Ensure that all pupils make optimal progress even where there are barriers to learning, through excellent systems and provision for all.
  • Ensure that a system for monitoring and developing the quality of teaching and learning is in place.
  • Ensure that there is an effective and rigorous system for assessing, recording and reporting of pupils progress towards targets and outcomes.
  • Effectively implement and frequently review the school behaviour policy to ensure a safe and harmonious learning environment.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Understands, accepts and follows the School’s Safeguarding / Child Protection procedures in order to protect the safety of all children and vulnerable adults. 
  • To report all matters of concern in line with the School’s procedures. 
  • To undertake a teaching commitment at a level consistent with the needs of the foundation and the demands of the post.

GENERAL AND SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • ICT Literate
  • Ability to work and plan as part of a team
  • Ability to use a range of classroom management and teaching strategies to engage pupils and promote progress
  • Understanding and knowledge of approaches to a variety of positive behaviour management.
  • Ability to differentiate teaching to support all pupils and their SEN
  • Skills to work with pupils in escalation, and strategies help aid desculation

Desirable

  • Evidence of having influenced the quality of learning, in present establishment
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Skilled in the use of nurture and outdoor learning or able and committed to developing these skills in a short amount of time

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Recent experience of working in senior management
  • Experience of working with pupils who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties
  • Experience of implementing intervention strategies to support pupils

Desirable

  • Experience of leading on whole school teaching and learning
  • Experience of nurture provision and outdoor learning
  • Experience of planning and monitoring personal learning package
  • Experience of liaison and co-operation with other professional agencies
  • Experience of working with a therapeutic approach towards behaviour management

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Essential

  • G.C.S.E Maths, English at Grade C
  • Commitment to continue professional development, evidence of recent INSET

Desirable

  • SENCO Qualifications or qualification linked to working with children with SEN

  • Have a full driving license and a vehicle available for work purposes including the transportation of pupils
